Vintage Japan - Works by Australian craft practioners inspired by Japanese traditions

Venue: Studio Altenburg, Wallace Street, Braidwood, NSW

Exhibition includes:

A "one off" indigo dyed 100% cotton clothing range using both vintage fabrics and new ones meticulously designed and handmade by todays artisans to follow exactly the old techniques in dying and weaving, with plenty of extra stock available for purchase. Actual exhibition display will not be able to be removed until the close of the exhibition on 30th June.

Several local artists will be working with silk fabrics  from very old kimonos to recreate amazing banners, purses, collaged framed works and to create nuno felt with natural wools to use for making wearable art.

Magnificent traditional Japanese lamps created from washi paper and light timbers treated with traditional glowing laquered finishes.

A rare offering of three intricately handmade quilts for sale made from vintage Japanese silks and cottons.

Local master printmaker Marianne Courtenay has included a few of her exquisite original woodblock prints which have been designed and created using only the very best quality Japanese papers and exact ancient and traditional Japanese techniques.
